Tulasalaya Ashram
A Sanctuary of Hope
In response to the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which left many daily wage earners without food or shelter, Tulasalaya Ashram was established under the then Tulasadevi Harihar Foundation (now, Tulasi Foundation) to provide refuge and support to those in need. These included children, the elderly, individuals with disabilities, survivors of domestic violence, and those facing mental health challenges.
Initially, the foundation began its work as an organization to distribute food materials and clothing to these groups of people, however, within weeks of initiating the distribution practice, the process of providing refuge began. Seeing the dire situation of these people, specially young children who were recently orphaned or domestic and/or sexual violence surviving women, the process of rehabilitating them commenced.
Tulasalaya now offers a safe haven for children, the elderly, individuals with disabilities, survivors of domestic violence, and those facing mental health challenges. Initially focused on providing food and shelter temporarily, it has since expanded its services to include clothing, education, healthcare, and social reintegration support, and permanent refuge.
As the number of residents continues to grow, so does the urgent need for sustainable financial support to maintain and expand our services. With collective effort, we can provide a better future for those in need.
Our New Initiative
When we first started Tulasi Foundation and opened the doors of Tulasalaya Ashram, we had little more than compassion, determination, and a mission to serve those in need. With no significant financial backing or infrastructure, we created a sanctuary for children, the elderly, and individuals in crisis—one room, one meal, one act of kindness at a time.
Today, as the number of residents has grown, so have our challenges.
Our current space is no longer sufficient to house all the residents in a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment. Providing proper living arrangements, adequate space for study and play, and dedicated areas for health and emotional care has become increasingly difficult.
In response, we’ve taken a bold step forward—we have purchased land in the peaceful and scenic area of Kavrepalanchowk, Panauti Nagarpalika Ward – 1, Khaani Danda where we are planning to build a permanent and purpose-driven establishment for Tulasalaya Ashram.
This new home will include safe and spacious residential facilities for children and elders, open spaces for play, recreation, and therapy, and most importantly, a fully functioning agricultural farm with cows, goats, chickens, and other animals to support sustainable food production for the residents, among others.
This initiative isn’t just about a building. It’s about creating a self-sustaining, empowering, and healing space where vulnerable individuals can grow, thrive, and reclaim their future.
To bring this vision to life, we need your support—whether through donations, materials, technical expertise, or simply spreading the word. Every contribution, big or small, helps lay the foundation of a better life for the people we serve.
We are seeking, financial contributions toward construction and materials, sponsorships for solar panels and water filtration systems, volunteers with expertise for guidance and also, partnerships with organizations that support rural development and child welfare
